How large should my website images be?

Generally, do not upload any image to your website that is larger that 1200x1200 pixels or more than 100KB in file size. Here are the instructions for determining file size and dimension.

How do I determine the size or dimension of an image?

Windows: Open the file where the image is saved. Place your cursor over the image icon and right click. Select "Properties" to show all image specs.

Mac: Open the file where the image is saved. Place your cursor over the image icon, hold down the control button and click. Select "Get Info" to show all image specs.

What is image compression?

Compressing an image means that you are minimizing the size of the image file. Making the file smaller means it takes up less space on your server and it takes less time to load.

How do I compress my images?

If you use a mac, we recommend that you download Image Optim app. We have not tested Windows based compression apps, but this online Compressor interface works with all systems and it's also kind of neat.
